Everything looked just right,
a lovely South Westerly was
lapping into the reed fringed
margins, the sky was overcast
with a threat of rain and the
pressure had been steadily
falling over the last 48 hours,
like ages before we had the
fish in the net, a common,
k n o wn a s A p r i l , w e i g h i n g i n
at 38lb 12oz!
If we had decided against
having one last cuppa, that
would never have happened!
A couple of weeks later we
w e re b a c k f o r a n o t h e r g o .
U n f o rt u n a t e l y, We n d y w h o
but the indicators had remained
stationary throughout.
With everything, excep t t h e

I had uttered the words, th e

o f bleeps and the bob b i n
t i ghtened up to the rod!
The following fight w a s
i n credible, a real long win d e d,
arm aching affair and it seemed
h a d b e e n s o me w h a t u n d e r t h e
w e a th e r f o r t h e l a st c o u p l e
o f d a y s , w i t h s o m e f l u -l i k e
b u g, d i d n ’t fe e l u p t o g e t t i n g
t h e r o d s o u t . We e n d e d u p
deciding to occupy the twoman bivvy so that I could tuck
We n d y u p o n t h e b e d c h a ir a n d
ply her with tea and hot soup
giving her a chance to sleep it
o f f u n d i st u r b e d .
The conditions were totally
different to our previous trip,
with high pressure firmly
i n c h a r g e r es u l t i n g i n c h i l l y
nights whilst the daylight
h o u r s w e r e b a t h e d i n Au t u m n
s u n s h i n e.
