I n my mind, I had decided to c h an g e a fe w t h i n g s ( as i t t u r n e d
o u t what a mistake) the pla n wa s to u p t h e b a i t l eve l s , l et th e m
k n ow the bait is here and t h ere i s p l en t y o f i t . U n fo rt u n ate ly I
o n ly succeeded in attractin g eve r y tu f t y o n t h e m i d d l e T h a m e s
i n to my area, and how they de c i ma te d th e b a i t . I h a d c h a n ge d
t h e rigs to smaller hookba i ts m o u n te d o n s i z e 6 Ro n n i e s . T h e
t h inking behind this was a ll c e n t re d o n th o s e w i ly f i s h t h a t
h a d laughed in my face prev i o us ly. T h e re su l t wa s h o o ke d f i s h
a f ter hooked fish, but the d o z en s o f b re am t h a t I c a u gh t j u s t
p roved that I was no close r to g e t ti n g t h i n gs ri gh t .
The fishing was slow, an d I wo n d e re d i f th e o n s l a u gh t a n d
s u ccess of the previous se a so n’ s ca m p ai gn h a d t a ke n i t s to l l .
Was the river starting to b e h ave mo re li ke a l a ke – a f te r a l l
t h ere was no flow to speak o f a n d a ny i n c re a s e d f i s h a c t iv i t y
s e emed to be a reflecti o n o f mo re favo u ra b l e we a t h e r. By
watching t he weather patte r n s i t b ec a me m o re o bv i o u s wh e re
a n d when to feed them. M o s t f i s h th a t we re c a u gh t th a t s t a l e
s u mmer were caught in go o d w i n ds o r a f te r re a l ly h e av y ra i n ,
a n d unfortunately we didn’ t ge t e n o ugh o f e i th e r. A f te r al l i s

There was one particul ar mo r n i n g i n t h e mi d d l e o f so m e
warm settled weather tha t w i ll s t ay w i th m e fo reve r. I wa s o n
my way to work, really p i ss e d o f f a t t h e p ro s p ec t of l e av i n g
t h e island when I spied so m e m ove me n t o ut o f t h e c o rn e r o f
my eye whilst walking dow n t he m ai n p a thway. I h a d n’ t s e e n
f i s h in this spot previ ous ly. I ha d two o p t i o n s – wa l k to t h e
s t ation, head up to Waterl o o a nd a n d tr y to s e l l my c a rp et s to
s o me miserable customers o r to tu rn a ro u n d a n d g e t o n w i t h
