Fishing in December is hard.
The conditions can be brutal,
the cold cuts through you.

about mindset, having the
w orth every aching muscl e.
When that fish final ly sw a m
a way, it honestly fel t l ik e a

a n d the day after, that dr e a m
r e minded me it was very r e a l ,
b e cause I couldn’t feel m y
a r ms. I even considered tak i n g
a week off work at that po i n t .
And then… just to rub sa l t
i n to my already bro ken b o d y,
I went on to catch a beau t i f u l
4 5 lb 15oz common, whic h I
c o uld barely lift. It som eh o w
m anaged t o make the 61 fe e l …
a l most easy.
Later, I was told that th e
6 1 wasn’t just my big g e st
r i g h t c l o t h i ng m a k e s a l l t h e
d i f f e r e n c e. I w a s s o g l a d I h a d
m y C a r p C o u t u r e Fo r t r e ss c o a t ,
t h e Dr i f t w a t e r p r o o f c o a t , a n d
m y b o b b l e h a t . W h e n yo u ’r e
living in your waders, standing
a r o u n d f o r ho u r s i n t h e c o l d,
staying warm and dry means
you can actually focus on the
fishing rather than counting
d o wn t h e m i n u t e s u n t i l y o u r
back in the warmth.
W h e n i t a l l c o m e s t o g e t h e r,
when that one bite finally
a r r i v e s , i t m a k e s e v e r y c o l d,
blank day completely worth
it.
