while working. When I accepted
the job I was certainly excited
about the chance to fish
bluebell regularly. I was to
bivvy up between shifts on the
rota laid out monthly. I mostly
started early mornings but did
fairly often also get later starts
The blanking on bluebell
continued for some time slowly
grinding me down but I finally
had a couple of bites from
sandmartin, a small common
and another common of 28lb.

I still continued to struggle
into the summer until I decided
to stay on for the first time after
on my shift. I’d work in blocks
between Friday to Mondays.
Although I fished Swan a
little to start with I mainly
fished Sandmartin as it was
nearest lake to the shop and
I’d loved to of caught “Tilly”
the current biggest carp on
the complex. My fishing fitted
around the rota most mornings
reeling in around 6-6:30am for
the 7:00am gate opening. I
certainly felt up against it as
I racked up multiple blanks
on Swan and Sandmartin. The
last day of the shift I’d usually
shoot off elsewhere for my
personal angling where I’d be
in quieter surroundings with a
bit more success.

little more time on my hands.
I had 3 days off before work
started again. It was July
and hot weather meant good
chance on floaters. A good

in next door to where I was
fishing and we worked as a
team spombing out floaters
working the open water on
Sandmartin. I’d nearly gone
home that morning and if it
wasn’t for James’s enthusiasm
I’d probably of bailed as I was
working and spending a lot of
time at bluebell and feeling
