I a rrived to a very packed c a r
p a rk, I wasn’t going to l e t i t
p u t me off. Speaking to o n e o f
t h e lads o n my walk rou n d, I
u l ti m a t e l y s m a l l s p o t s, i n o n e
o f t h e we e d ie s t a r e a s of t h e
l a k e. O n e r o d w a s p u t o n a
s h o rt s p o t a l m o st d i r e c t l y i n
front of the swim, with half a
kilo of boilies catapulted in a
loose spread around the area.
T h e o t h e r wa s p u t a f e w r o d
lengths further out, and to
the left of the swim, with just
q u ickly learned that a lo t o f
f i s h had been holding u p in t h e
m i ddle section of the venu e, a
f a ct supported by the num b e r
o f anglers congregatin g i n
t h is area.
There was no way I w a s
g o ing to fish in this zon e, I’ m
n o t averse to the social asp e c t
o f carp angling, but I’m a l s o
n o t as keen to rub sho ul d e r s
w i th other people whilst w e ’r e
a l l targeting the same se c ti o n
o f water, and so after a b ri e f
b a rrow-pu sh, and spend i n g
t w o hours casting a l ead ab o u t
i n a few likely areas fur t h e r
d o wn the lake, I deci d e d
t o set up in a swim whe r e I
h a d iscovered two clear, b u t ,
t wo - h a n d f u l s o f b a i t o v er t h e
top.
The first night and day
passed without a bleep. A
couple of fish had been out
in the middle section, and
someone had now dropped in
o p p o s i t e m e. I w a s n ’t g o i n g
to move as I was happy ith
m y sp o t s , b u t I h a d o n l y s e e n
a c o u p l e o f f i sh i n t h e a r e a ,
s o t h e t h o u g h t d i d c r o ss m y
mind.
The second night then
p a s s e d, a n d o n c e a g a i n t h e
lack of fish activity in the
area did beg the question of
whether I was wasting my
time in the area? The angler
