I c e r t a i n l y w a s n ’t g o i n g t o
disturb other anglers just to
have look at the lake from
their swim, so I carried on
walking and investigating
where I eventually found my
big lake is around 100 fish
and made up with around
25 to 30 original carp and
approximately 70 VS fishery
fish. The sad reality is that
due to predation and floods,
n o b o d y r e a l l y k n o w s w h a t ’s
s t i l l i n t h e b i g l a k e. B u t I
was seen 30 or so carp and
I remember thinking why
way to the riverside bank.
The riverside bank offers no
n e a r b y p a r k i n g. T h e s w i m s o n
offer along that bank require
a s u b s t a n t i a l b a r r o w, w h i c h
clearly put some members
o f f, w h i c h c o u l d b e a n e d g e.

As I walked along the
riverside bank, I began to find
the odd fish lazing around in
t h e m o r n i n g ’s s u n s h i n e. O u t
of reach from the anglers on
the roadside bank. Intense
angling pressure pushing the
fish from the roadside bank to
the sanctuary of the riverside
bank.

I watched that large group
of fish for around an hour or
so in that swim until they
drifted off to the back of
a n i s l a n d, r e m a i n i n g o u t o f
reach of the roadside bank.
The carp were content to
soak up the rays of the
mornings sun. Occasionally
showing themselves whilst
rolling on the surface and
very occasionally dropping
d o w n t o t h e b o t t o m t o f e e d,
s e n d i n g u p l a r g e, p l u m e s o f
bubbles through the upper
layers.
Knowing these fish had more
than likely fed very close by
through the night and early
BigCarp 106
