in sick on Thursday to get my
arse back up the lake just as
quickly as I could. Thursday
m o r n i n g a r r i v e d, I i n f o r m e d
my boss that I had indeed
fallen ill and would see him
o n t h e f o l l o w i n g M o n d a y, i f I
had recovered. All he said to
m e w a s g o o d a n g l i n g, M i c k y.
It
was
late
Thursday
evening when I arrived back
at Ecton, the wind was still
trickling down to my end
of the lake and some fish
were certainly present, I
wasted no time getting into
my baited swim, getting the
house set up quickly and the
rods ready to go. It was just
bordering on dark now and
in the twilight, with rod in
h a n d, I l o s t m y f o o t i n g a n d
f e l l i n t h e s o d d i n g l a k e, w a i s t
deep, one leg in the lake and
one leg out, standing there

could get out of the lake was
by pulling my dry leg into the
lake along with the wet one
and climb out.
My dry cloths but they were

just wanted to get the rods
out before I lost the light to
maximise my chances during
t h a t e a r l y m o r n i n g b i t e t i m e.
Getting dry clothes would
r e s u l t i n a 2 0 t o 3 0 m i n d e l a y.
After making a run for the
car and getting some dry
cloths I did manage to get
the rods out, the banker spot
g o t i t s n o r m a l l a r g e s o l i d P VA
b a g, a n d t h e o t h e r t w o s p o t s
got short German rigs. I fell
asleep very late that night
and was rudely awoken by
few beeps on the banker rod
around 6am, I popped my head
up out of the sleeping bag
t o s e e w h a t w a s o c c u r r i n g. I
expected a coot or duck to be
t h e c u l p r i t , b u t i t w a s n ’t , i t
was an angry mirror that was
