was confident about getting
my third Ecton bite and I
d i d n ’t h a v e t o w a i t l o n g.
Around an hour so into
fishing up against the island
a n d i t w a s v e r y u n e x p e c t e d l y,
away but it almost instantly
weeded me up. This fish was
s o l i d i n t h e w e e d a n d c o u l d n ’t
b e b u d g e d, I p u l l e d a s h a r d a s
I dare and a huge weed bed
began to slowly inch toward
me but was there a fish still
i n i t ? S a d l y, a l l I n e t t e d w a s a
giant ball of weed an no carp
– Ecton was fighting back!
I may have lost that fish
and I was devasted at the
time but now I had two spots
that were doing bites and
t h a t ’s a b s o l u t e g o l d d u s t o n
water like Ecton. I replaced
the rig on the shallow island
spot and now that had turned
into to the rod I expected
to go, my new banker spot.
That shallow island rod was
flicked in and out of the pond
avoiding the busy birdlife all
d a y, i t w a s a r e a l p a i n b u t h a d
t o b e d o n e. S a d l y, I c o u l d n ’t
get that spot to do deliver
a n o t h e r b i t e, b u t I w a s c e r t a i n
that if I could keep the ducks
a w a y, i t w o u l d d e l i v e r a b i t e.
Around 3:30 am the rod was
flicked back out to my island
honey hole and within 2 hours
the rod was away again.
The
fight
was
rather
uneventful as the fish was
c o v e r e d i n s o m u c h w e e d, i t
just allowed me to pump it in
slowly entering the net at the
first attempt. The fish itself
was other stockie of around
22 lb but this one was a
scaley little Ecton banger of
the future – a cracking carp.
The type of fish that when
someone catches, they say
“imagine that one at 30+” a
proper little Ecton gem. The
future is bright, the future is
scaley at Ecton.
After returning the fish,
I was eager to get the rod
back onto its marginal shelf
hotspot but the ducks by
n o w w h e r e a r e a l i s s u e. I h a d
