quick as it turned up, it disappeared, and the sun was soon
back out blazing again down into my spot .
I thought, sod it, I’ll put the rod back out, hoping that the
rain would have pushed the bream out of the shallower
water and down off the shelf, and it did, but I never had a
knock or any sightings for a good hour or so from any fish at
all. I was now just chilling, enjoying the morning with a few
coffees and reading a carp fishing autobiography when all of
a s u d d e n , I h a d a v e r y s t e a dy t a k e , v e r y s l o w, n o t a g g r e s s iv e
at all. It was a very constant take from when it had started to
when I picked the rod up. Because it had taken line though,
I knew straight away it was a carp. The fish put up a little
s c r a p , n o t h i n g t o o m a j o r, a n d I k n e w i t w a s a s m a l l e r f i s h b y
the way it was fighting. I landed this stunning little linear
a n d d i d a f e w s e l f - t a k e s , n o t h i n g s p e c t a c u l a r, j u s t p i c t u r e s
for my records. I put the fish back as soon as I could so I
could get the rod back out on the spot. Where there’s one
a n d a l l t h a t m a l a r k e y…
I always tend to favour the multi rig when fishing the docks,
and a lot of my fishing mainly involves the multi rig. I tend
to couple it up with an 18 or 20mm pop-up to try and deter
t h e b r e a m , b u t i t d o e s n’ t a l w a y s w o r k ; i n f a c t I d o n’ t t h i n k
it works at all, but in my mind, I like to think its stopping
t h e m . I t r y a n d s t a y a w a y f r o m u s i n g s o l i d b a g s a n d P VA
mesh bags with pellets and other similar items when I know
the bream are around; I just cast out a single pop-up over
the baited area to try and single out the carp. This is the
exact method I was using on this morning.
