a gain. Keeping an eye on th e i r Fa ce b o o k p a g e an d kee p i n g i n
to uch with a few mates o n t h e re , i t wa s c l ea r I h ad n’ t m i s s e d
m uch. The lake didn’t fis h we ll , a n d to a dd to t h a t , i t wa s
c l osed for two weeks for s p aw n i n g. W i th t wo we e ks bo o ke d
o f f work coming up I had t wo 4 8 - h o u r t ri p s at my d i s p o s a l
e i t her side of a week’s ho l i d ay w i t h t h e mi s s u s fo r o u r f i rs t
wedding anniversary.
Feeling rather out of tou c h wi t h t he p la c e, I d e c i ded a d ay ’ s
f l oater fishing would give me t he c h an c e to h ave a g o o d l o o k
a b out as well as givi ng me t he c h a nc e o f a f is h o r t wo o f f t h e
to p. The weather was roas ti n g a n d g o o d fo r a f l o a te r. O n ly a n
h o ur in and I was lucky eno ugh to h ave a n i ce l ow 20 l b c o mm o n
o f f the top from the back b ay. W i t h al l t hi s a b n o rma l ly h o t
weather, in the places the we ed h a d s ho t u p to t h e s u rfa c e .
Co me midday, the weeken d a n gl ers h a d l e f t , l eav i n g t h e l a ke
e mpty. I decided to make t h e m o s t o f t h i s o p p o r tu n i t y to m a rk
u p a few spots in a few dif fe re n t sw i ms a ro un d t h e l a ke . Af te r
p l enty of marking abo ut , I h a d fo u n d a fe w li ke ly l o o k i n g s p o t s
t h at screamed out for a bi g h i t o f b a i t .
I felt the carp would b e u p fo r a b i g m u n c h - u p a f te r t h e
s l ow spring and the heavy s p aw n i n g, a n d my k n owl e d g e , t h e re
weren’t many anglers putt i n g m u ch b ai t i n . I re a l ly fe l t t h ey
n e eded turning on, and a b i g h i t o f b a i t a t t h e r i gh t t i m e c a n
d o this. I felt the middle of t he p o n d i n th e ma i n l a ke wo u l d b e
t h e perfect area, as big nu m be r s o f f i s h love fe e d i n g o u t t h e re
a n d always pass that area. N o t o n ly th i s , b u t I p re fe r f i s h i n g
t h e middle of any lake; it j u s t se e ms to b e a s a fe z o n e fo r t h e
c a rp, even on smaller lake s.
Wanting to hatch a plan fo r my 4 8 - h o u r t ri p , I d e c id e d to
