j u st had to be tied on, and I ’d s o o n f i n d o u t . I d i d n’ t eve n g o
to the worry of casting a b a re l ea d ove r my s p o t f i rs t ; I j u s t
t h ought , I’m going straigh t i n w i th a ch o d , a n d t h a t’ s exa c t ly
what I did.
I cast my two rods out o n to th e s p o t a n d s c a t te re d a s m a l l
n u mber of boilies around th e h o o k b ai t s . B e a r i n m in d I h a d
b a ited the previous morni n g . I s a t b a c k u nd e r a s m a l l t re e to
g e t some cover, as it had s t a r te d to ra i n , an d I p u t al l my k i t
u n derneath the tree. The t wo b oys we re s t a n d i n g o u t i n t h e
ra in laughing and joking, an d I t h o u gh t I’ d g o ove r an d t ry
to get to know them bette r. At f i r s t t h e Sc o u s e g uy wh o n ow
I know as Danny was very f r i en d ly, b u t hi s m a te M ark wa s a
l i t tle cagey and didn’t real ly ta l k m u c h. D an ny wa s ve ry l o u d
a n d just straight to the p o i n t . I l i ke t h a t i n p e o p l e , a n d i t ’ s
p robably why we are good f ri e n ds to th i s d ay. M a rk wa s ve ry
q u iet at first , but as D anny wa s o p e n i n g u p w i t h a ll s o r t s o f
s tories, Mark was coming o u t o f hi s s h e ll a n d re a l ly c ra c k i n g
s o me sarcastic jokes, whic h wa s re al ly f un ny.
I t started to get heavy w i t h ra i n , s o I re t re a te d u n d e r my
t ree, and as I was sitting t h ere , I h ad a fe w b l e e ps o n my ri gh t
h a nd rod and then melt dow n . I wa s i n o n my f i rs t re a l s e s s i o n
o n the lake, literally withi n a c o u p le o f h o u rs o f b e i n g t h e re . I
p i cked up the rod, an d stra i gh t away, I kn e w i t wa s a g o o d f i s h .
I t wasn’t moving much an d wa s j u st a p l o d d i n g d e a d we i gh t ,
p l oughing through weed b e d to we ed b e d. I k n ow n ow I wa s
l i terally fishing in a massive j un gl e o f Ca n a d i an p o n dwe e d .
