few seconds the hook pulled...
I checked the rig, the hook was
still sharp it was just bad luck.
I’d angled well but had just
been kicked in the nuts again!
I continued to bait the lake
everyday and in particular the
h o r se s h o e r e e d s s p o t , a g a i n
i t wa s a we e k b e f o r e I w o u l d
d i d, the Big un and was c l o s e
a g ain I was so excited, th e n I
h e ard this noise getting lo u d e r
a n d louder and it t urned o u t
t o be a low flying hel ico p t e r !
W hat were the chances of t h a t .
T he water erupted and t h e
f i s h were gone bow wav i n g
d o wn the lake to the secu r i t y
o f the pondweed.
Next day I was back again but
had to wait till the afternoon
before they returned, I saw
the Big un smashing his way
through the pondweed in the
middle heading up the lake to
his favourite scratching post,
with a pungent squid wafter
waiting in the crater with a
few chopped boilies too. The
see the Big un, and he was
t r a v e l l i n g t h e r e e d l i n e ag a i n ,
looking catchable but further
d o wn t h e l a ke n o w s e e m e d t o
be their new favourite spot.
My tactic of lowering the hook
baits tight to the reeds was
deployed and after and hour
o r s o , tw o o f t h e s m a l l e r c a r p
b e g a n f e e d i n g. T h e n I s a w t h e
Big un. I have to admit fishing
t h e s e s h a l l o w, c l e a r l a ke s i s
exciting at times, It was like
‘ J a w s’ c o m i ng t o w a r d s y o u !
Anyway I had a double take as
I w a s p l a y i n g a Sm a l l u n , t h e
o t h e r ro d r i p p e d o f f, t h e h o o k
pulled on the first one and I
landed the fourth and last
o n e o f t h e S m a l l u n s. I d i d n ’t
