cruising carp, I decided to
reel a rod in, grabbed my pot
o f tu tt i f ru it y p o p u p s a n d
took the conventional 9-10inch braided hair rig off and
t h e l e a d, p u t t i n g o n a 2 - o u n c e
d i dnt really know of me, wh i c h
i s fine as I just wanted to b e
f i s hing and try and land o n e
o r two carp.
My next trip was a very h o t
m orning, sun-up first th i n g
a n d then the heat and t h e
h u midity really built as the d a y
p r ogressed. There were pl e n t y
o f people around, surprisi n g l y
a s it was a weekday. Th e re ’s
s o mething about park l a k e s
and sunny days. Making people
j u st gravit ate to water in h e a t
a n d this day was no differ e n t .
T he carp had gathe re d at t h e
b a ck of the island on the r e a r
o p en field side. There m u s t
h a ve been 90% of the la k e s
p o pulation around there a n d
l e a d, a b e a d s t o p a t a b o u t f o u r
feet depth; as the carp were in
w a te r s o f 4 . 5 - 5 f o o t d e p t h , b u t
w e re p o si t i o n i n g t h e m s e l v e s
o n t h e s u r f a c e o r j u s t b e l o w.
So, I basically knocked up a
w h a t s k n o wn a s a m o d e r n d a y
zig rig and mounted my nylon
hair rig Tootie fruity pop up and
targeted the slowly moving
c a r p s wi m m i n g i n f r o n t o f m e.
I wa t c h e d a d a r k d e c e n t s i z e
looking fish coming across
o f m e. I c a s t w e l l b e y o n d t h e
carp and slowly reeling in,
using the tip of the rod to get
the pop up to glide directly in
f r o n t o f th e f i s h h o p i n g, a n d
anticipating the plan to work!
