o f beeps followed by a ste ady ta ke an d a g o o d b a t t l e , a n d my
f i rst Yateley carp was in th e n e t , a s tu n n i n g l o n g , d a rk m i rro r,
which was also a new per s o n a l b e s t o f 2 6 l b. I t wa s i m e fo r a
c e lebratory beer with Jord an wh o h a d co me a ro u n d to h el p
w i th the photos and weigh i n g !
I quickly got the rod back on the spot , and knowing Jordan
really wanted to get back to his swim, I told him to get
back and get his rods out and we would have a BBQ and
a s o c i a l t h e f o l l o w i n g d a y. H e g o t h i s r o d s o u t j u s t b e f o r e
dark, and I was just nodding off when I heard the sound of
a Delkim in the distance. A quick look to the far bank, and I
c o u l d f a i n t l y s e e s o m e c o m m o t i o n i n J o r d a n’ s s w i m . I m a d e
a quick phone call to Baz, who turned out to be tucking into
a burger and was none the wiser about what was happening
i n t h e p e g n e x t t o h i m . H e p o p p e d o v e r t o J o r d a n’ s s w i m a s
he was just slipping the net under what looked like a good
fish that yet again had fallen to his solid bag approach, but
this time a trimmed down Saffron & Cream pop-up was the
hook bait . A long lean mirror of 29lb 14oz was his reward.
A few night shots and the fish was returned, leaving Jordan
a happy angler going to bed that night.
The next morning we m ad e t h e p h o n e c al l s to e a ch o t h e r
ex pecting at least one of u s to h ave h a d a f i s h i n t h e n i gh t ,
b u t nothing, other than Ja me s l o s i n g o n e to a h o o k p u l l . We
d e cided we would pop to th e l o c al s h o p s a n d p i c k u p s o m e b i t s
we needed and pop into Ya te ley A n gl i n g Ce n t re to re f i l l o u r
water butts and a quick sto p o f f a t t he l o c a l b u tc h e rs fo r s o me
